Elisabeth Claes (°1989, Genk, Belgium) is an Antwerp based artist/footwear designer.
She graduated from the fashion department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent, supplemented by a shoe design course in Sint-Niklaas.
Her motivation to study fashion was the result of her fascination with the human body. An attraction that does not only express itself in fashion. After high school, Elisabeth studied dramatic art for a year at the Institute Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp. The theatrical and narrative dimension of dramatic art still has an influence on the work of the young designer.
Whether through footwear, drawings, masks or wearable sculptures, Elisabeth Claes’ work distils a poetic, calm and sober atmosphere, using natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship.
Due to her third bachelor collection “The person you love is 72,8% water”, Elisabeth Claes was selected as “young wolf” by the Flanders Fashion Institute. She won an exhibition at Showroom Belgium during Paris Fashion Week. Her work has been displayed at several expositions, including 'The Belgians' (BOZAR) and 'Belgian Shoe Talent in the Picture/Footprint' (MoMu, Antwerp Fashion Museum).
